Galia Golan

Prof. Galia Golan is retired Professor of Government and Chair of the Program for Diplomatic Studies and Conflict Analysis at the School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy in the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya (IDC), and a Professor Emerita of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where she was chair of the Department of Political Science.


Prof. Golan was a founding board member of the 'Meretz' party. 


She founded the "Lafer Center for Women's and Gender Studies" as well as the "Marjorie Mayrock Center for Russian, Euro-Asian and East-European Research", both in the Hebrew University. 


Formerly, Prof. Golan was a founding board member and leader of Peace Now" and at "Bat Shalom", and in the International Women's Commission for a Just Israeli-Palestinian Peace. 


Today she is a leading member of Israeli and Palestinian movement Combatants for Peace.


Prof. Golan won the "Women in Leadership" prize of the New Israel Fund (1995), the "Activism Award" of the Glicksman Foundation (1999), and the "Israel Association for Political Science" Prize for her contribution to the field (2006).  


She is the author of ten books, most recently "Israeli Peacemaking since 1967: Factors behind the Failures and Breakthroughs"; and the co-editor of several books, most recently with Gilead Sher, "Spoilers and Spoiling in the Israeli-Arab Conflict".
