Maya Sherman is a Tech Diplomacy professional, Senior Advisor, and Researcher working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, governance, and international cooperation. Her work focuses on shaping technology policy and examining the strategic, ethical, and cultural implications of AI. Her research explores the intersection of AI, culture, and religion, and how value systems influence technological development and adoption, particularly in contexts of conflict, identity, and social change.
Maya advises governments and international organizations on AI policy, regulation, and digital transformation. She represents Israel as an expert at the OECD’s Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), contributing to international policy discussions on AI ethics, disinformation, and the future of work. As part of this work, she led an AI literacy initiative in India’s informal sector. She also served as Innovation Attaché at the Israeli Embassy in India. Prior to this, Maya worked in the private sector in government-focused cybersecurity, advancing cyber defense solutions for government and financial clients across Latin America.
Her work has been published in leading academic outlets, including Routledge, Oxford University Press, and Frontiers. She serves as a Board Member of the Israeli Association for Ethics in AI, Bharat Responsible AI Forum, and FIDUTAM, and mentors climate innovation initiatives across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Maya is a recipient of the Indian Bar Association Women’s Leadership Award (2026) and was named India Champion of the UN Innovation Challenge (2024). She is also a recipient of the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Leadership Scholarship for full studies at the University of Oxford (2021). She holds an MSc from the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, and a BA in Government, Diplomacy, and Strategy from Reichman University
