Col. (res.) Adv. Pnina Sharvit Baruch is a senior research fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), where she heads the Program on Law and National Security. She also serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Forum Dvorah.
Adv. Sharvit Baruch retired from the Israel Defense Forces in 2009 after 20 years of service in the International Law Department of the Military Advocate General’s Corps, including five years as the department’s head.
In this role, she provided legal advice on matters of international and administrative law to senior officials in the IDF and Israeli government. Her areas of expertise include the laws of armed conflict, occupation law, maritime law, counterterrorism, security agreements, border delineation, diplomatic negotiations, and international legal proceedings.
She participated as a legal advisor in Israeli delegations to negotiations with the Palestinians from their inception, as well as in the 2000 negotiations with Syria.
After her military service, Adv. Sharvit Baruch lectured at the Tel Aviv University Faculty of Law, teaching courses on international law and the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. She also taught at the IDF National Security College.
She is an active contributor to academic research, publishes articles, and lectures both in Israel and internationally on law and national security topics.
Pnina holds both an LLB and LLM (with honors) from Tel Aviv University.
She previously served as Chair of Forum Dvorah and currently represents the Forum on NATO’s Advisory Committee on Women, Peace and Security. She is also Vice President of the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists, and a member of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network.
